sipcall internet

Requirements

What are the on-site requirements for sipcall internet to work?

VDSL: A telephone socket is required (usually RJ45 nowadays). If DSL is already active, the NSN (DSL identifier) can be provided. In this case, the internet will be activated on the same line. If no DSL is available, the customer must arrange for an electrician to carry out the transition in the house connection box. The information for the electrician will be provided on the data sheet, which will be sent approximately one week after the order is placed.

Fiber: The customer does not need to call an electrician. Depending on the infrastructure, a certified installer may be assigned to extend the line into the unit and install a fiber optic socket.

Which sipcall subscription do I need to order sipcall internet?

We offer sipcall internet to all customers with a sipcall business subscription. Customers with a sipcall pro account have the option to upgrade to a sipcall business account in order to order the internet option.

Which router is required for sipcall internet?

We offer pre-configured routers for all profiles, which only need to be plugged in (see order form).

Alternatively, you have the following options: VDSL: A router that is approved by Swisscom. List of approved models

Fiber: A fiber-compatible router or an additional media converter. Additionally, the router must support the required bandwidth.

Can I use my existing router?

Yes, as long as the technology and bandwidth are supported (for unmanaged service). If support is needed for configuring your own router, we can recommend a sipcall partner. sipcall does not provide support for third-party routers.

Ordering Process

Installation

Is an electrician required for installation?

VDSL: If changes need to be made to the house installation, then yes. If it's just a provider switch, sipcall internet will be activated on the same line, eliminating the need for a transition.

Fiber: If the house installation (fiber up to the fiber socket) has not yet been completed, this will be arranged by Swisscom / municipal utilities.

Why is an electrician necessary?

VDSL: To ensure that the terminal where the internet is activated is connected to the correct apartment.

Fiber: If fiber is available at your address but you do not yet have a fiber socket in your office, an electrician must install one on-site.

Who bears the cost of the electrician?

The costs for the electrician's work are borne by the customer.

How long does it take to activate sipcall internet?

If everything is in place, about one week. For fiber, the current state of infrastructure expansion must be considered.

How do I install sipcall internet?

The router supplied by sipcall is pre-configured and only needs to be plugged in. If using your own router, it must be configured and connected by the customer or a sipcall partner.

Miscellaneous (Explanations)

What is an OTO socket (Optical Termination Outlet)?

OTO = Optical Termination Outlet
The telecommunications socket is a fixed socket where the fiber optic cable (patch cable) is connected. It serves as the optical interface between the end device and the network connection.

What is a BEP (Building Entry Point)?

BEP = Building Entry Point
The BEP is where the external cable is connected to the house installation.

What is an IPv4 address?

An Internet Protocol Address (IP address) is a network address that must be unique for each device in a network. This is necessary to ensure that data packets are correctly addressed and delivered. An IP address serves as a unique identifier for a computer to define its location on the internet. It also indicates which provider is being used.
