sipcall App for MacOS

This guide explains how to download the sipcall app to your Mac computer and configure or provision the desired sipcall phone number in just a few simple steps.

Installation Guide

Download

Download the free sipcall app to your Mac computer.
Make sure to download the version that matches your Mac system.
If you're not sure which chip your Mac has, you can find an Apple support article here to help you.

System Requirements
  • macOS 13 or higher
  • Apple M chip

Installation

Drag the downloaded "sipcall" file into the "Programs" folder.

Configuration

The configuration steps may vary slightly depending on the portal and product. Select your combination:

  1. Log in to your personal sipcall user account via the sipcall customer portal.
  2. Then navigate to the Phone Numbers menu.

  1. Click on the desired phone number you want to configure for the sipcall app.
  2. In the configuration overview of the sipcall number, click the "Edit" button within the "sipcall App" card.

  1. Click the "Provision" button. The app will now start automatically and will be configured with your sipcall phone number.

  1. Once the configuration/provisioning has been successfully completed, the app will appear in the "Registered Device" column next to the configured phone number.
If the sipcall app is not displayed here, the app is not active.

warning

If you regenerate the VoIP password for an already registered phone number, the configuration must be repeated for that number.

tip

If you encounter issues during provisioning, try opening the provisioning link in a different browser (e.g., Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.).
Alternatively, you can manually enter the SIP credentials after opening the sipcall app manually.

General Features

SIP or RTP Traffic Information

Please note that some Wi-Fi and network providers may block SIP or RTP traffic, which can limit the functionality of the sipcall app.

Activating DND (Do Not Disturb)

Click the "moon" icon to activate the DND feature.
When DND is enabled, you will no longer receive incoming calls via the sipcall app.
Notification sounds for incoming messages will also be suppressed.
When DND is active, the moon icon appears filled.

Using the Busy Lamp Field (BLF)

The busy lamp field feature only works for other phone numbers that are part of the same shared account (Pro or Business account).
It doesn't matter which device is registered to the other number.
To use this feature, go to the "Contacts" menu and click the "Add Contact" icon in the top right.
You can optionally add a profile picture and a name.
In the "Phone Number" field, enter the sipcall number in canonical format (e.g., 41442005000) and enable the "BLF" option.
Finish the entry by clicking "Save".
You will now see the added person. If they are currently on a call, their status turns green and shows "On Call".
If they are not on a call, they appear in gray with the status "Off Call".

Using the Voicebox

If you have set up a voicebox for your phone number in your sipcall user account and the "Email Dispatch - Action" setting is set to "None" or "Copy",
you will receive a notification as soon as someone leaves a voicemail.
Additionally, a voicemail icon with a red badge indicating the number of messages will appear in the "Keypad" menu of the sipcall app.
Clicking the voicemail icon lets you listen to or delete the messages.

Storage Location for Recordings
Recorded calls are saved in the following directory:
/Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/ch.sipcall.sipcallapp.osx

Office 365 Contact Integration

Click on the "Contacts" icon and switch to the "Office365" tab.

You can now connect with your Microsoft account by clicking "Please sign in".
All contacts from the main contact folder will be synced regularly.
Please note that contacts from subfolders or shared folders are currently not supported for synchronization.

Activating Click-to-Dial

To activate the "Click-to-Dial" feature, click the gear icon (Settings) in the bottom left corner of the sipcall app and go to the "Controls" menu.
Click "Settings" next to "Set as default calling app".
Then click the "Start FaceTime" button to open the FaceTime app.
Within FaceTime, go to "Settings" and change the "Default for calls" app to "sipcall".

From this point on, all phone number links will be dialed using the sipcall app (e.g., phone numbers from tel.search.ch).
The "Hotkey Dialer" feature is currently not available.
