Caller ID (CLIP)
One of the most common features for telephone connections is caller ID, also known as CLIP (Calling Line Identification Presentation).
What is a CLIP?
This refers to the display of the caller's phone number on the recipient's telephone screen.
Incoming Calls
In the sipcall customer portal, you can define the phone number format for incoming calls. You have the following options:
Standard
: National phone number format, for example 0442005000.
The standard CLIP setting dates back to the early days when landline phones were mostly hardware phones, such as DECT or desk phones.
Standard offers the following advantages:
- The displayed number is as short as possible; for national calls, the country code is omitted.
- The displayed number is more readable for the human eye.
E.164
: International phone number format without +
, for example 41442005000.
This phone number format is required by some telephone systems or VoIP devices.
E.164 offers the following advantages:
- The displayed number is always the same, always with the country code.
- Storing the number in a database or phone book is directly possible.
+E.164
: International phone number format with a leading +
, for example +41442005000.
This phone number format is commonly used in mobile communication or telephone systems today.
+E.164 offers the following advantages:
- Synchronization of address books is possible across devices without duplicate entries.
- The stored phone number can also be dialed directly in the case of mobile roaming.
If you are using a phone system with a phone book, we recommend setting the incoming call number format to +E.164
.
If your phone system does not support this, use E.164
, the format without +
.
If you have the Microsoft Teams telephony option enabled, +E.164
will be automatically activated.
Outgoing Calls
In the sipcall customer portal, the Call display outgoing phone number can be defined. The following options are available:
Standard
: Caller ID of the currently used number.
The called party will see your sipcall number displayed.
Registered phone number
: Caller ID of an available number within the same customer account.
The called party will see the number selected in the "Call display" dropdown menu.
Anonymous
: The phone number is suppressed.
The called party will see your calls as private / "anonymous".
A single call can be temporarily suppressed using a Service Code.
Emergency services and telecom providers can still see your number, even if caller ID is suppressed.
Personal
: Phone number from another provider, if it is verified and owned.
The desired phone number from another provider is signaled to the destination.
A current proof of ownership (e.g. a copy of a phone bill) verifying ownership of the number must be uploaded.
If you want to activate the CLIP no Screening
feature, please contact our customer service or your sipcall installation partner.
